Community Pharmacy NI

Community Pharmacy NI (CPNI), formerly known as the Pharmaceutical Contractors' Committee, represents the interests of community pharmacy contractors in Northern Ireland.

Campaign Against Cuts

Every day, more than 120,000 people visit their local community pharmacy. Cuts to the funding of community pharmacy by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, which equate to almost 30 per cent of total funding, will have a devastating impact. If the proposed cuts are implemented, the network will be seriously weakened. The most vulnerable in our society- older people, parents with young children, people with chronic and terminal illnesses, and those without access to transport- will be the most adversely affected.
It will also have a major impact on employment. Over 7,500 people currently work in community pharmacies across Northern Ireland and it is estimated that 800 of these jobs will disappear with an expected closure of 100 pharmacies. Under the current proposals, it is not possible to predict where closures will happen. They could be in towns and cities, or areas of social deprivation and rural villages with only one pharmacy. The closures will be uncontrolled, and it will be a case of only the strongest surviving.

  • Contacting your local MLA and asking them to support the campaign
